Re: [edlug] Linux Based Linksys Router (WRT54GL)

Dave,

Here is a list of hardware devices, some are better supported than others, (including modems) for OpenWrt:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/TableOfHardware?action="">

What I did was hook up an ADSL modem router to it via ethernet cable but I think you are looking for an all in one solution that is modem and router and can have OpenWrt (I think the list above has a few devices like that).

Rab - I found OpenWrt a bit too heavy and installed dd-wrt (has an easy web gui) instead but it would be good to speak to you about how you get on with OpenWrt.

If I might de-lurk briefly to pick a few brains...

I have often wondered about going down this path myself, but never
fully understood how I'd run this box on my ADSL connection. Am I
right in thinking this router requires an ADSL modem in addition? Any
recommendations of something reliable?

Is there perhaps a Linksys offering that contains the necessary modem
_and_ can run Linux as well?

So far I have junked a Belkin that seemed to lock up every few hours,
and am currently using a Netgear box which seems to need to be powered
off and on several times a week. It'd be nice to have something
reliable which also had lots of features.

Thanks,
Dave
